Lalla Takerkoust: The Lake, the Atlas and the Quiet Side of Marrakech

Lalla Takerkoust is a lake and small town roughly 35 km southwest of central Marrakech, at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains — usually a 40–50 minute drive from the city, and around 30–40 minutes from Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK). The lake itself is a reservoir, formed behind a dam originally built in the early 20th century to supply water and power to the region. Today it's a calm, scenic escape where the Atlas Mountains reflect in the water on clear days.

The trails around the lake and out into the Agafay are some of the best near Marrakech — eucalyptus forest, open desert and mountain views. A group favourite for a high- energy afternoon.

The countryside here is made for it. Scenic, unhurried trails suited to all levels — the calm counterpart to the quads.

The Agafay desert

Often called the closest thing to the Sahara you can reach on a short trip from Marrakech. Stone and clay rather than sand dunes, with spectacular Atlas views — and unforgettable at sunset.

Lakeside dining & slow days
